We in this country know so little about how Native Americans live. This piece from POLITICO will open your eyes and remind you that the problem at the center of TO SAVE THE MAN is not just an old problem, but a current one too: we are still not doing right by our children.
I feel like TO SAVE THE MAN can shine a spotlight on life in Indian Country. When I tell non-American Indians about the movie they say, “Oh, like in RABBIT PROOF FENCE?” How does it happen that we have as our reference an Australian movie about schools for Aboriginal Australian children? It’s time to tell our own country’s story.
